One of the first cards I remember finding in the Topps packs when we started buying cards in 1960. A while ago, I did an online search to see what kind of career Umbricht went on to have, since I don’t recall seeing any of his cards in later years. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by illness. He died of lymphoma, April 8, 1964, while a member of the expansion Houston Colt 45s. In recognition of his courageous performances on the field, while battling cancer, his #32 jersey was retired by the Houston club prior to the 1965 season.
